“In an age of movement,
nothing is more critical than stillness.”
Restorative yoga originates from Iyengar yoga, and uses props to support the body completely in each pose in various seated positions. This gentle practice is all about slowing down and consciously relaxing, to calm the nervous system and still the mind. In an age of fast paced living and many demands on each of us, this practice is perfect for balancing and grounding yourself. Restorative yoga builds flexibility, deeply relaxes the body, reduces the effects of stress, and improves mental well being. While being supported by props, we enjoy around 5-8 minutes breathing and softening the body completely, allowing the deep tissues to release, and tension to flow from the body. During restorative yoga, the muscles and joints passively relax, and the whole body and mind are encouraged to switch off and let go.
This style of yoga is open to complete beginners, and those of all ages and abilities, and is suitable for pregnancy, with some minor adaptations. It is ideal for times of illness or injury, as it supports a healthy immune system and healing. I assist each student with any modifications or extra props to help them get comfortable and enjoy the practice to the fullest. For those experiencing difficulties with stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, this is an ideal practice to reduce such symptoms and improve well being.
Most of my classes are 60 minutes, and have a theme each week, allowing a focus as I guide you through relaxation, while you enjoy softening and relaxing in 5-7 poses. I also include some meditation and breath work, to help you fully come into relaxation, and to learn some ways to help you carry this calmness back into your everyday life.
Please keep an eye on my Instagram or shop for the next class, I am currently running monthly restorative yoga classes.
kind words
“Thank you so much for helping me look within myself. Honestly I’ve never experienced anything like this class. It’s the first time since having my baby, that my body has felt so much like my own again. I feel so connected and cleansed.”
“Harriet has a natural calmness about her that is infectious. I’ve been joining her restorative yoga for a few weeks now, and it’s the most amazing hour of my week! Harriet’s experience is invaluable, she gently talks us through the poses, helping us to adjust to suit our own needs to ensure that every member has a wonderfully relaxing time. Her soft voice is soothing, and the yoga opens my heart, mind and soul to a new level of healing, each session feels like a huge release and a warm hug at the same time.”
